The Transport and Logistics Committee of Alexandria Business Association held a meeting with Tahya Misr Terminal, chaired by Major General Mahmoud Khodair, Chairman of the Board, and Eng. Mohamed Hassan Abdelkader, Head of the Committee, to discuss the terminal’s capabilities and services supporting imports and exports, while working to reduce vessel dwell time, which directly impacts container transit time and cost to final destinations.
The meeting reviewed challenges raised by stakeholders, particularly importers, regarding the time required to transfer containers to inspection yards, which may reach 4–5 days compared to 1–2 days at competing terminals, creating additional operational and financial burdens.
Terminal representatives clarified that strict security procedures are in place, and inspection operations are not permitted inside import yards; instead, inspections are conducted exclusively in designated areas.
Currently, more than 80% of incoming containers are subject to customs inspection requests, placing significant pressure on operations. The terminal has set a daily inspection capacity of 330 containers; however, public holidays often lead to congestion and delays in container movement. It was also noted that actual inspection volumes do not always reach the set capacity due to missed or unconfirmed appointments.
In light of ongoing cooperation between Tahya Misr Terminal and the business community, both parties agreed to increase the daily inspection capacity to 350 containers per day, aiming to accelerate container movement to inspection yards and reduce both time and cost for importers.
Alexandria Business Association expressed appreciation to the terminal’s management for its cooperation and commitment to facilitating operations for importers and exporters and overcoming challenges faced by clients.
The meeting was attended by Mr. Mohamed Hanno, ABA Chairman, Mr. Abdel Aal Ali, Head of the Customs Committee, Eng. Ahmed Ghoniem, Deputy Head of the Transport and Logistics Committee, Mr. Mahmoud El Araby, Commercial Manager, Mr. Yan Maghrian, Executive Director of the terminal, and Mr. Anas Smaili, Operations Manager.
