The Alexandria Business Association (ABA) hosted a high-level European Union delegation, led by Mr. Nicolas Zaimis, Minister Counsellor and Head of Trade and Investment at the EU Delegation in Cairo, with representatives from several European countries including Spain, Sweden, Belgium, Latvia, Bulgaria, and Slovakia.
The visit included a tour of ABAโs Vocational Training & Employment Center – VTEC to explore cooperation opportunities and review its training programs, followed by a networking meeting organized by ABAโs Foreign Affairs Department with ABA Members and business community representatives to discuss potential collaboration and strengthen economic ties between Egypt and Europe.
The delegation was received by H.E. Eng. Ayman Attia, Governor of Alexandria, and Mr. Mohamed Hanno, ABA Chairman.
Alexandria Governor highlighted Alexandriaโs historic role and the strong EgyptโEurope relations, noting that VTEC represents a successful model in youth empowerment, having trained 10,000 young people and created thousands of job opportunities.
He also emphasized the EUโs strategic role in supporting vocational training and sustainable development partnerships.
The European delegation praised ABAโs practical approach to addressing business challenges and its strong contribution to the local business ecosystem.
Mr. Mohamed Hanno showcased ABAโs efforts in upskilling the workforce and expanding employment opportunities through VTEC, in cooperation with international partners including GIZ Egypt, KfW, Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), as well as Dutch, French, Japanese, Korean, American agencies, and the WFP ( World Food Programme). He also announced a new International Labour Organization-funded program training 200 participants.
He called for deeper #EU cooperation, stressing the importance of stronger multilateral partnerships amid global economic changes.
